What is Dia de los Muertos?
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican holiday that honors the memory of loved ones who have passed away. Families create vibrant altars, known as *ofrendas*, adorned with photos, mementos, candles, and favorite items to welcome the spirits of their loved ones back for a joyous reunion. While the holiday often focuses on honoring human family members, itās also a perfect opportunity to remember and celebrate the animals who brought love, joy, and companionship into our lives.
Creating an Ofrenda for Our Pets
Starting on October 1st and continuing through November 2nd, we will have a special *ofrenda* set up at our location for pet parents to honor their departed pets. We welcome you to stop by and place a photo, a favorite toy, or a special memento in memory of your furry friend. This *ofrenda* is a space for reflection, healing, and remembranceāa place where we can all come together to celebrate the lives of our pets.
Whether your pet passed recently or years ago, this *ofrenda* is a chance to keep their memory alive and share in a community of people who understand the unique bond between humans and animals.
How You Can Participate
If you'd like to honor your pet on our *ofrenda*, hereās how you can participate:
- Bring a photo of your pet or a small item that represents them (such as a favorite toy, collar, or keepsake).
- Feel free to write a note or share a few words about what your pet meant to you and place it on the *ofrenda*.
Ā
The ofrenda will be open from October 1st through November 2nd, and youāre welcome to stop by every day between 10 AM and 2 PM at:
28015 Smyth Dr.
